Baltimore-born artist and writer Joan Cox creates intimate portraits of women, as a means of acknowledging and emphasising the female gaze. “My work opens up a dialogue about the increasingly open presence of lesbian couples in contemporary society and the lack of their presence in the history of Western art,” says Cox on her official website.

However, in a PRIDE ART collection, Cox expands her subject matter to include portrayals of queer intimacy.
