FASHION: A Closer Look at Lukhanyo Mdingi’s “Bodyland” Collection for Paris Fashion Week.

Lukhanyo Mdingi’s latest collection, Bodyland, was presented at Paris Fashion Week 2022.

The multi award-winning queer South African designer had this to say about his Autumn/Winter 2022 collection: “The premise of this season’s presentation is an expansion of the pure spirit of collaboration. A recent period of respite in Burkina Faso will now form the heart of the label's opening showcase BODYLAND. This is a celebration & testimony of the provenance of craft from these human-beings, as the central figures through which broadening collaboration across the continent remains ever-possible”.

In 2021, Mdingi won the prestigious LVMH Karl Lagerfeld Prize. “I think being part of the LVMH Prize really causes a lot of visibility to entrepreneurs and young designers, and the reality is that each designer uses that platform and opportunity to explore potentials. It truly is incredible to have and be a part of that history, especially because it is one of the prominent awards in the fashion industry. It was an extraordinary thing, to be able to share with so many other amazing designers. I am super grateful for that,” said the East London-born designer in an interview with OkayAfrica
